Being a Miss Universe is not all about glamour, makeup or catwalks. The ball game is completely different from what it looks like. It’s about having a personality, great interpersonal skills and the courage to accept your true self and being comfortable in it.
I have invested lot of time in reading as well as hearing stories from previous year winners. Here are a few qualities enunciated by our current Miss Universe, Zozibini Tunzi to make it big in life.
1. Having a purpose in Life:
According to the current Miss Universe a person should always have a purpose in life. Zozibini said that everyday when she used to wake up, she had the urge to contribute to the society.
She always had a voice and was desperate to find a platform to amplify her messages of love, leadership and relatability.
2. Acceptance:
People should always remain themselves rather than trying to become others. When they accept themselves and learn to own up the positives and negatives of their personality, nobody can break their spirits. This is the first step to gain confidence. Zozibini showed the world that Africans should be comfortable in their own brown skin and hair. She believes that beauty has multiple faces and it should not be stereotyped or compartmentalized.
3. Preparation:
This is the most important part of the Miss Universe preparation. According to the exact words of former Miss Universe 2005 Natalie Glebova, “it is usually the most prepared girl that wins it all”. Women should stop waiting for destiny and leave no stone unturned in their preparations to win Miss Universe. They should master every aspect of their preparation be it the swimsuit competition, opening statement, final question and answer. They should be updated with the current affairs concerning the global community.
4. Personality:
Remember that a woman can always work on her catwalk turns, pacing, speed and coordination. She can also work on her knowledge by reading newspapers, books and journals. But what really matters is her personality, what kind of a person is she ? This is something that she has attained since the time she was born. It is the outcome of all her life experiences, her nature and ideals that have moulded her outlook in life. It is important to be a good human being and help others with utmost humility.
5. Communication Skills and Interpersonal Skills:
This is often the most neglected part of the Miss Universe competition. We have seen countries like Colombia and Thailand making it to the top and barely missing the top and losing out in the final Question and Answer round. Mostly, this round tests the substance the women carry and primarily their speaking skills. The biggest challenge is to fully express one’s thoughts in an effective way to connect with the audience. This was the strongest part of Zozibini's preparation.
